THE most important step in keeping your website safe – backing it up!
Here is what I believe to be THE most important step in keeping your website safe – backing it up!
You know your website is one of the most important assets in your business. Keeping it updated, protected and online is vital.
One of the worst things that can happen to you as a business owner is to discover your website is offline or compromised. You’re losing leads, sales, image, and trust.
Worse still if you don’t have a recent backup you can fall back on.
So, here are my top three things you need to think about with your website backups.
Schedule Regular Backups
Your hosting company will likely have a backup of your website, but how out of date is it?
It’s important to take control and put your own backup schedule in place.
As a rule of thumb schedule a full backup once a week and a daily database backup. For eCommerce websites, a daily full backup, and at least an hourly database backup – even more regularly for websites with high-frequency sales.
Store Backups Off-site
For effective security and safety, your backups should be stored with an external service, like Amazon’s S3 platform, Google Drive or Dropbox.
Encrypt your backups
For the safety of your business data, choose a solution that encrypts the backup of your website before storing it off-site to keep your data and your customer data, secure.
